Brent E. Stenberg, Ph.D.

Dr. Brent Stenberg has served on staff at CPC since 1980. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fuller Graduate School of Psychology of Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. His training and work have centered on both clinical and community psychology throughout his career.

Dr. Stenberg provides individual therapy for adults, and couples therapy in his general clinical practice. His approach focuses not only on addressing current concerns, but on helping clients more effectively navigate stress and distress by learning skills to build resilience and strengthen one’s sense of well-being. Dr. Stenberg served as the executive director of CPC for 30 years.

In Memphis, Dr. Stenberg continues to be actively involved in providing staff support, training and consultation for various faith communities, urban ministries, and other service-oriented organizations. The focus of these activities is two-fold: to enhance and support resilience and well-being for those on “the front lines” providing care, and to assist in skills-training for increased effectiveness in the services being provided both personally and organizationally.

In addition, Dr. Stenberg has been involved for many years in providing support for humanitarians working in high-risk environments in a variety of settings world-wide. He serves as a senior consulting psychologist in these endeavors with both the Headington Institute and Humanitarian Psychological Services.
